Watch | Live Stats | Tickets

THIBODAUX, La. – Resuming a six-game homestand, the Nicholls State University baseball squad welcomes Sam Houston State to Ben Meyer Diamond at Ray E. Didier Field for a three-game series beginning Friday.

The contests Friday and Saturday will begin at 6 p.m. with the finale commencing at 1 p.m. on Sunday. Friday's game is the annual Breast Cancer Awareness game, presented by the Cancer Center of Thibodaux Regional Medical Center, where attendees are encouraged to wear pink.

Friday's concession specials include $6 fried catfish poboys and a $9 combo with chips. Each batter that Nicholls strikes out in the first inning on Saturday takes $1 off beer prices through the fourth. Sunday will feature burger and beer specials. Burgers will be $1 off and two bottled beers for $5 will be sold in the fifth inning only.

The Colonels (10-19, 4-5 SLC) clobbered the University of Arkansas-Pine Bluff 14-1 behind a career-high four hits from freshman outfielder Xane Washington, marking the first four-hit performance for Nicholls this season. Senior outfielder Chet Niehaus was the last Colonel to achieve the feat, securing four knocks against Brown on March 5, 2017.

Nicholls has three batters hitting over .300 including redshirt junior infielder Brady Bell (.333), Niehaus (.306), and senior infielder Ethan Valdez (.303). Considering league play, Colonels' Friday starter Alex Ernestine boasts a 2-0 record with a 1.11 ERA.

Nicholls student-athletes have been hit by pitch 58 times, which ranks tied for third in Division I with Southeastern Louisiana. The Colonels also front the league with 29 sacrifice bunts.

The Bearkats (21-7, 9-0 SLC) ride a four-game winning streak into Thibodaux, sweeping Abilene Christian this past weekend and besting Rice 14-9 on Tuesday. SHSU tops the SLC with 29 homers, paced by six each from Blake Chisolm and Hunter Hearn. Outfielder Clayton Harp is batting a team-high .345, followed closely by Ben Haefner's .342.
