ITTA BENA, Miss. – The Nicholls State University soccer team was downed 3-1 Friday night by Mississippi Valley State University at the MVSU Soccer Field.
The Devilettes (1-2-0) got on the board in the 10
th minute of the first half when All-SWAC First Team midfielder Laadi Issaka broke through the Colonels (0-3-0) backline and found the back of the net.
Nicholls quickly responded as senior
Francesca Curteis struck for goal in the 16
th minute after a lovely cross from sophomore
Hannah Bodron. Less than a minute later, Issaka scored from 20 yards out to put MVSU back on top at 2-1.
The only goal of the second half came via Devilettes striker Karenth Zabala Terrazas, who escaped a scrum only to slot it past redshirt sophomore
Jade Gallaher.
The Colonels totaled 18 shots to MVSU's 12, including eight on goal compared to just four for the opposition. Devilettes goalkeeper Myisha Butta totaled seven saves to help lift MVSU to victory.

Kristy Helmers tallied three shots apiece. All three of Gunnthorsdottir's attempts were on target.
Nicholls returns to Thibodaux to face Prairie View A&M at 1 p.m. Sunday, the first of six straight home matches.
