BEAUMONT, Texas – The Nicholls State University men's tennis team played in its second competition of the fall in the Ron Wesbrooks Invitational, hosted by Lamar University over the weekend.

As a group, the Colonels claimed three wins in singles play and a pair in doubles. The other teams in the event were Lamar, UTSA, UT Arlington, and Tyler Junior College.

"It was a solid weekend in terms of development for our program against an exceptionally strong tournament field," said Greg Harkins, Nicholls tennis head coach. "We still have a lot of work to do, but I was proud of our competitiveness, hard work, and conditioning. The scores don't always show the long-term results, but this will help us when we get into the spring."

In flight 2, Piyush Surendra Salekar won a three-set battle against Lamar's Joshua Sundaram, 7-5, 4-6, 10-8. Ricardo de Sales Chaves Machado took a match in Flight 3 with a 6-4, 6-3 victory against UTSA's Patrick Poestinger. The final win in singles was a Collin Scheufler straight-set win versus Brock Lauer, 6-2, 6-1.

For doubles competition, Salekar and Prasanna Pravi Bagade earned 6-3 win over Lamar's Paton Canal/Sundaram, and Pavle Drobnjakovic/Scheuffler defeated UTSA's Poestinger/Nishihara, 6-3.

UP NEXT
The Colonels will head to Florida for their final event of the fall, taking part in the TOPS'L Invitational in Destin, Florida. The tournament is scheduled to begin on Friday, Nov. 15.
