THIBODAUX, La. -- Despite putting together a number of competitive sets, the Nicholls State University volleyball program (11-16, 5-11 Southland) faltered during Thursday evening's Senior Day contest against HBU (17-13, 9-6 Southland), falling to the Huskies in a straight sets sweep at Stopher Gym in Thibodaux, La.
KEY STORYLINES & STATISTICS (L 0-3)
-- The Colonels pushed HBU to the brink in both the first and third sets, dropping the opener by just three points (25-22) and the final by just two (25-23). The second set proved much more difficult, as the Huskies jumped out a solid lead they never surrendered, grabbing a 25-12 victory.
-- Individually, the Red & Gray saw the most production out of a trio of sophomores -- OH

Meghan Wozniak worked her usual role as the team's primary setter, grabbing 21 assists with a squad second-best nine digs.

Emily Venable posted a stellar performance in her final match at Stopher Gym, notching a team-high 18 digs on the night. Notably, the senior's strong showing pushed her to 1,248 career digs, sealing the third overall spot on the program's all-time list for the category.
UP NEXT
Even with the loss, the Colonels remain in the running of the final seed in the Southland Conference Tournament; however, in order for the Red & Gray to clinch, fellow league members New Orleans (vs. HBU), McNeese (at Stephen F. Austin) and Abilene Christian (vs. Lamar) must lose in Saturday's slate of contests.
