THIBODAUX, La. -- Buoyed by a six separate double-digit performances, the Nicholls State University men's basketball program (4-4, 0-0 Southland) surgically dismantled non-Division I visitor Blue Mountain College (4-3, 1-1 SSAC) in Tuesday evening's home tilt, coasting to 102-56 win over the Toppers in the team's largest margin of victory this season. Notably, the Red & Gray's 102 total points now serves as the new single-game scoring high within the Austin Claunch era, outpacing a 100-point showing the Colonels posted against Central Arkansas during the 2018-19 campaign.
Individually, redshirt junior Andre Jones led the way behind a season-best 20-point outing, finding a near-perfect balance between his lethal off-the-dribble drive tactics and a pinpoint pull-up jumpshot. And while none of the remaining five Colonels in double figures -- Dexter McClanahan (18), Kevin Johnson (14), Warith Alatishe (13), Elvis Harvey Jr. (13) and D'Angelo Hunter (11) -- reset any personal marks, the team's six total double-digit performances now acts as a new single-game squad-high on the year.
KEY STORYLINES & STATISTICS
-- A dominant offensive performance by the Red & Gray throughout guaranteed the Toppers never had any opportunities to push for a lead, falling behind by double-digits as early as the 13:36 mark in the first half; following the break, the Colonels refused to adjust their high-pressure gameplan, pushing the scoring margin as large as 54 (5:14 remaining) before closing out the eventual victory by 46.
-- For the game, Nicholls finished shooting 47.9 percent (34-of-71) from the field, 36.8 percent (14-of-38) beyond the arc and 83.3 percent (20-of-24) at the free throw line.
-- As a group, the Red & Gray dished out a significant 21 assists, obliterating their previous best (14) set earlier this season agasinst Paul Quinn College.
-- In addition to his game-high 20 points, Jones also managed to pace the team in steals (4) while notching six boards and four assists as well.
-- Both Johnson and McClanahan led the Colonels with five assists apiece, combining elsewhere for four steals and 10 rebounds.
-- Similarly, Alatishe and Harvey Jr. put together solid outings on the glass, pulling down a squad-high eight boards each while also recording four total steals and two blocks.
-- Notably, senior Tom Clement saw his first action of the season, registering eight minutes off the bench along with one three-pointer. Meanwhile, freshman Tyrease Terrell made his collegiate debut in the contest, posting one layup across five minutes on the hardcourt.
