BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Nicholls State University freshman Troynae Walker recorded a personal best 5-foot, 3-inch high jump Friday at the Birmingham CrossPlex as the Nicholls State University indoor track and field squad competed at the Samford Open over the weekend.

Walker, an Erath High School product, is now tied for 21st in the Southland in the high jump.

"We had an outstanding meet from our arrival Friday night starting with season bests in the 200m and Troynae's PR in the high jump making her the No. 4 all-time Nicholls indoor performer," Nicholls head coach Stefanie Slekis said. "It is exciting to see everyone's hard work paying off from the past month training together as a team. We are just now starting to rest and come into our peak form heading into the Southland Conference Championship in two weeks.

"We had almost every team member compete their best mark of the season this weekend highlighted by almost half the team members reaching lifetime personal bests. The goal is to come back in two weeks and have every team member compete their best performance at the conference championship as we continue to make history adding 2019 team members to the Nicholls all-time Top 10 indoor performer list.

"We also want to give coach [Tim] Rebowe a big thank you for allowing BJ Randle and Donnell Adair to join us and help our men's team compete in their first official season in 14 years."

Fellow freshman Chelsea Harrington leaped 16-05 in the long jump, marking a new personal best and the No. 9 spot in program history. Sophomore Joyce Kiplagat (20:51.80) and junior Francesca Curteis (21:03.70) moved into the Top 15 in the league in the 5000m.

On the men's side, Miguel Harris and Randle qualified for the 60m semifinals. Freshman Daniel Figueroa's 8:54.84 in the 3000m puts him at No. 36, qualifying him for the Southland Conference championship meet.
