Colonels fall on the road at Xavier (La.)

NEW ORLEANS - The Nicholls State University men's tennis team came up short in picking up its first road victory of the season with a 5-0 loss at Xavier University of Louisiana Wednesday afternoon at the XULA Tennis Center.

With the loss, Nicholls fell to 2-7 on the season. Xavier, ranked No. 3 in the NAIA, improved to 3-1 and has won the last four meetings against the Colonels.

Nicholls was swept in doubles, falling 8-5, 8-3 and 8-2. In singles, Nestor Giribet Lopez and Eduardo Marino were defeated on courts No. 3 and 4, respectively, to end the match. The teams played first to five points, based on NAIA rules.

Tobias Lentz was the lone Colonel to win a set, taking the opener against Samir Chikhaoui on the No. 2 court. He won 6-4 before his match went unfinished.

UP NEXT
The Colonels will play Bucknell in Beaumont, Texas, for a neutral court match on March 13. The next home contest is scheduled for March 15 against Florida A&M.
