THIBODAUX, La. – The Nicholls State University softball team returns to Swanner Field for the first time in a month to take on the No. 10 UL-Lafayette Ragin' Cajuns. First pitch is scheduled for 6 p.m.
Nicholls (12-12) is coming off a series win to start Southland competition, winning the first two games at Central Arkansas.
Megan Landry went 2-0 in the circle with a 0.53 ERA, holding UCA to a .174 batting average in 13.1 innings. She improved to 10-4 on the season with a 1.51 ERA.
Emma Holland and
Kali Clement continue to lead the team at the plate as both are hitting over .300 on the season. Holland's .329 clip is tops in the lineup to go along with two triples and a pair of home runs. Clement hit .400 in the series win at UCA and also homered, bringing her average up to .327. She leads the Colonels with a .531 slugging percentage.
ULL comes to Thibodaux for the first time since 2007, which was the last time the Ragin' Cajuns lost in the series to the Colonels. Louisiana-Lafayette has won nine straight against Nicholls, with the last meeting coming in 2012. Only one of the wins was decided by fewer than eight runs.
The Cajuns have been impressive in hitting and in the circle, leading to a 19-3 record on the season. At the plate, they have hit .349 as a team with 26 home runs and 169 runs scored. The pitching has been just as dominant with a 1.75 ERA and a .160 opponent batting average.
Julie Rawls (.426) and Bailey Curry (.412) led the team in batting average, with Rawls blasting five home runs while posting a team-high 21 RBIs. In the circle, Summer Ellyson is 13-3 with a 1.33 ERA. She has 100 strikeouts and has walked just 17 batters.
AT SWANNER FIELD
The 2019 Senior Class is 50-6 in Thibodaux. The matchup against ULL is only the second home game for the Colonels this season. Nicholls defeated Southern Miss, 4-1, on Feb. 13 in its opener.
