Stevenson’s 3-under paces Colonels in Lake Charles

LAKE CHARLES, La.  –  Nicholls State University senior golfer Baker Stevenson turned in a 3-under 141 to tie for 20th after the first day of the Lake Charles Toyota Invitational, held Monday at the Country Club at the Golden Nugget.

Stevenson was one of three Colonels to eagle in the 36 holes. He shot a 2-under in the opening round and was 1-under in the second time through. Stevenson tied for first out of 99 golfers on par-3 scoring, birding three times on the eight par 3s.

As a team, Nicholls knocked off eight strokes from its first-round score, going from 291 to 283. They enter Tuesday's final round tied with Missouri State and are within seven strokes of the next four teams in the standings.

Freshman Ben Baker had the best round of any Colonel on the day, shooting a 3-under 69 in his second 18. He shot a 74 to start the day, but then had an eagle on hole 1 and totaled four birdies on his way to a 3-under. He is tied for 39th with a 1-under after jumping 25 spots up the leaderboard.

Rounding out team play was Liam Bryden (76-70--146), Jack Lee (75-73--148), and Connor Campbell (72-77--149). Campbell was the other Colonel to eagle, shooting a three on the par 5 12th.
