QUOTE FROM HEAD COACH STEFANIE SLEKIS
We had a very successful Outdoor season opener at UL-Lafayette's Louisiana Classics. Despite chilly temperatures and a bit of rain Friday evening, freshman Chelsea Harrington picked up where she left off at Indoor Conference running a personal best by over .2 in the Women's 200m. We also had four women compete that evening in the Women's 10,000m with all four of them breaking the #8 mark on the All-Time Top 10 Performer list. Haley Gregoire lead the way to take over as the #5 All-Time Performer in the Women's 10,000m negative splitting her race 20:59 and 20:22 per 5,000m to run 41:21.89.

Saturday started off competitively for the Colonels as well with Freshman Jeremy Rogers throwing is best season opener in the Men's Javelin just off his personal best to win Flight 1 and just miss out on the final. Freshman Troynae Walker continued to make history like she did every meet indoors by taking over as the #7 performer in Nicholls history in both the 100 Hurdles 15.46 and High Jump 5-1.75. It is exciting to see that our women have picked up right where they left off in indoor and are continuing to improve their performances as we have just begun the outdoor season. The goal is to continue to chase Nicholls All-Time Top 10 performer marks throughout the outdoor season leading up to the Southland Conference Championship.

QUOTE FROM COACH SLEKIS
Our men's and women's teams have a fantastic opportunity to be competing at the 37th Annual Victor Lopez Classic. This is a historic meet with excellent competition from distance races to sprints to field events. After the strong opener we had at UL-Lafayette I am excited to see how fast we are able to race this Friday and Saturday and how far and high we can jump and throw. We have two women who made the A sections for their events: Maerys Joseph 400m and Callie Scull 800m so it will be exciting to see Nicholls representing in those competitive sections and to have those student-athletes facing competition that can push them to a personal best this early in the outdoor season.
