Colonels defeat Alcorn for second straight win

EDINBURG, Texas -  The Nicholls State University men's tennis team won on back-to-back days with a 6-1 victory against Alcorn Saturday afternoon.

Nicholls started the weekend with a win over UTRGV Friday and carried that momentum into Saturday's neutral-court win over Alcorn. The Colonels (4-7) won the doubles point before taking five of the six singles matches.

"It was a great team win to close out the long weekend. The men pulled together to earn two big victories in the mid-season stretch" said Greg Harkins, Nicholls tennis head coach.

Oleksandr Podgursky and Tobias Lentz won on the top court in doubles, 6-3, and Moritz Borges and Nestor Giribet Lopez clinched the doubles point with a 6-3 win at No. 3.

In singles play, Borges and Alvaro Barranco Vilaltella started off with wins in straight sets. Next, Giribet finished his grind on the No. 4 court through blustery conditions.

The top two courts fought back after dropping their first sets. Podgursky responded with a big win on the No.1 while Dylan Loru finished the day in a tie break.
