McKINNEY, Texas – The Nicholls State University men's golf team began play in the 2019 Southland Conference Championship Monday and finished 10th out of 11 teams after 18 holes at the Stonebridge Ranch Country Club.
With expected weather in the area coming Wednesday, the teams will now play the final 36 holes Tuesday. Nicholls will be part of the first pairings to tee off at 7 a.m.
Playing in windy conditions, Nicholls landed in 10th after turning in a 330 (+42), which placed the Colonels 14 strokes behind New Orleans for ninth. Lamar led the way with a 301 - four strokes ahead of Sam Houston State and Southeastern Louisiana.
Connor Campbell paced the Colonels with an 8-over 80, tying for 26th out of 55 golfers. He sank one birdie and finished with 11 pars.
Ben Baker posted an 81 to tie for 33rd, and also had a birdie on the day. Seniors Baker Stevenson (84) and Jack Lee (85) finished tied for 43rd and 48th, respectively, and Liam Bryden shot an 88.
Southeastern's Joris Eltin was the lone golfer to shoot under par, carding a 71.
