THIBODAUX, La. -- The Nicholls State University Men's Basketball program is proud to announce the team's participation in the 2019 Jersey Mike's Jamaica Classic, set for Friday, Nov. 22 through Sunday, Nov. 24 in Montego Bay, Jamaica.
The annual pre-season college basketball tournament enters its third year in one of the most iconic destinations in the Caribbean. With its picturesque beaches, modern resorts, and exciting nightlife, Montego Bay is one of the region's most popular tourist destinations -- an ideal setting for the 2019 Jersey Mike's Jamaica Classic.
"We look forward to any opportunity where our student-athletes can compete with top-tier competition," head coach Austin Claunch said. "The fact that Jamaica beaches are within walking distance only serves as an added bonus. We're excited to get the 2019-20 season underway, and have our trip to Montego Bay circled on the calendar."
In addition to Nicholls, seven other universities round out the host and travel teams participating, including in-state opponent LSU, North Texas, Utah State, Rhode Island, North Carolina A&T State, Samford and the University of Maryland-Baltimore County (UMBC). Eight tournament games will be held on the four host campus sites with the other eight games slated for the Montego Bay Convention Centre in Jamaica.
Montego Bay is the capital of the parish of St. James, widely known as MoBay by the locals. From reggae to dancehall, few countries as so defined by their music as Jamaica.
