THIBODAUX, La. -- The Nicholls State University women's soccer program (3-6-1, 0-3-0 Southland) dropped a competitive match to league opponent UIW (4-6-0, 3-0-0 Southland) on Saturday afternoon, falling by an eventual 3-0 margin to the Cardinals at the Nicholls Soccer Complex.
KEY STORYLINES & STATISTICS
-- The Red & Gray defense held fast for the first 25 minutes of the contest, but a UIW goal at the 26' broke the deadlock as the Cardinals picked up the game's initial lead. With less than a minute remaining in the first half, the Cardinals would slip another score into the back of the net, clinching a 2-0 edge entering the break. UIW grabbed a third & final goal to kickoff the second half, closing out the win behind a 3-0 margin of victory.
-- Offensively, the Colonels saw a majority of their production come from senior
Blaire Laiche, who posted two of the squad's three shots. The lone shot-on-goal, however, came midway through the second half, as junior
Shaun Breaux took advantage of an open look at the Cardinals' keeper.
-- Redshirt junior
Jade Gallaher locked down her fourth start between the posts this season, surrendering a combined three goals while grabbing 11 total saves.
UP NEXT
With the two-match home stand concluded, the Colonels turn their attention to a major mid-season roadtrip, battling four of the team's next five in the Lone Star State beginning with Texas A&M-Corpus Christi on Oct. 4 & Houston Baptist on Oct. 6.
