THIBODAUX, La. -- The Nicholls State University women's volleyball program (4-0, 0-0 Southland) opened the team's home slate with a dominant performance in the Colonels Classic, outpacing Alcorn State (2-1, 0-0 SWAC) in straight sets Friday evening at Stopher Gym. With the victory in hand, the Red & Gray clinch a 4-0 mark for the first time since the 1999 campaign and pull within one win of the best start in program history.
KEY STORYLINES & STATISTICS (W 3-0)
-- For the first time this season, the Colonels not only managed to win the match's first set -- 0-3 in opening sets entering Alcorn State -- but the squad sealed a win in straight sets, a feat their 2018 counterparts only pulled off twice (vs. Mississippi Valley State & vs. Southeastern Louisiana).
-- The Nicholls offense spread the kills around on a relatively even scale, boasting two leaders -- sophomores MB
Aaliyah Burras & RS
Katie Jones -- with seven apiece and three more players with at least four.
-- Meanwhile, freshman phenom OH
Jackie Alanis continued her hot start to the season, picking up six kills and a team-best four service aces on the night.

Meghan Wozniak once again posted a serious contribution under the radar, notching team-highs in both assists (19) and digs (8) along with one service ace.
-- Defensively, the Colonels also managed to share the load, as Wozniak, Alanis & junior OH
Kate Hoerdemann each picked up eight digs in the win.

The Colonels Classic continues Saturday morning as the Red & Gray square off against Alcorn State once again, first serve set for 11 a.m.
