BATON ROUGE, La. -- Following a highly-successful showing at last week's Samford Bulldog Open, the Nicholls State University track & field program wraps up the indoor regular season at the LSU Twilight, battling 10 opposing squads on Friday, Feb. 21 at the Carl Maddox Field House in Baton Rouge, La.

For third-year head coach Stefanie Slekis, the LSU Twilight presents a rare opportunity to "tune up" prior to a major meet like the Southland Conference Indoor Championships, especially as the coaching staff works to assign student-athletes to not only the correct event, but also the right number with multiple Colonels set to compete in a wide array of events.

"The LSU Twilight is our final opportunity to test fitness before finalizing our entries for the Southland Conference Indoor Track & Field Championship," Slekis remarked. "All of our student-athletes have an idea of what events we plan to have them compete in at the championship, but this meet will help us determine who will compete on each relay in addition to which and how many individual events each athlete will be entered in to maximize our team's success. I am really excited to see Lara Reifers, Augusta Marie Christensen, and Dustin Worley race the 3000m again as they compete for conference qualifying times. Additionally, all of our sprinters will be competing in their signature race distances, and our long and high jumpers having another great opportunity to reach new personal bests. Finally, our mid-distance group is dropping down in distance for this meet to work on their speed before championship style racing next week."

The Red & Gray advance to the Southland Conference Indoor Championships against the other 12 teams from around the league just a week after returning from Baton Rouge, traveling back to the Birmingham CrossPlex in Alabama for the two-day meet, set to run from Sunday, Mar. 1 through Monday, Mar. 2.
