THIBODAUX, La. - The Nicholls State University men's tennis team fell behind early with a doubles loss and a top-line singles setback, but the Colonels stormed back with four wins in singles as they took down UTRGV, 4-3, Saturday afternoon at the Colonel Tennis Complex.
Omar Hussein got things started with a straight-set victory at No. 4, then
Prasanna Pravi Bagade and
Antoine Martin-Thiriat followed with wins on 5 and 6. After UTRGV (3-7) took the point at No. 3 in a three-set battle,
Piyush Surendra Salekar had an impressive showing with a 6-7 (4-7), 6-2, 7-6 (7-4) thrilling win to seal the team victory.
"It was feisty across the courts, but the guys really dug in," said
Greg Harkins, Nicholls Tennis head coach. "Being at home, we had an excellent turnout and we edged ahead, 4-3. It was a great day to be a Colonel."
The win was the second straight for the Colonels, which improved to 4-3 on the year.

Nicholls will return to the courts next Sunday at LSU (March 8).
