Slekis inks first member of 2020 T&F/XC Class

THIBODAUX, La. -- Nicholls State University head track & field/cross country coach Stefanie Slekis concluded a successful National Signing Day on Wednesday afternoon, locking up the first member of her 2020 class: Megan Nevlud, a Texas native set to join the program come this fall.

"Megan embodies all the values we are looking for in a student-athlete and will contribute to our program reaching new athletic heights while helping us continue the strong academic success we have laid as a foundation the past three years," Slekis said. "Her work ethic and coachability will bring Megan to the top of the Southland Conference and I am looking forward to working toward her highest goals together over the next four years. Our women's cross country team has the big goal of winning a Southland Conference Cross Country championship in the next two to four years with our highest finish in Nicholls history being sixth place and I know Megan is prepared to help our team achieve this goal."

Name: Megan Nevlud

HC Stefanie Slekis: "I am thrilled to have Megan joining our team for next year. Based on her high school success, Megan will have an immediate impact on our women's cross country team with her personal best placing her in our team's Top Five as a scoring runner. Her race at the 6A UIL Texas State meet this fall was phenomenal where she took 14th in an extremely competitive field. Her junior year track personal bests would already rank her either in the Top 10 All-Time for Nicholls in some events, or just outside, so I am looking forward to seeing her improvement during her senior track season after such a huge senior year in cross country. On top of Megan's athletic success, she is an even higher achiever in the classroom and earned an Academic Scholarship to Nicholls as well."
