THIBODAUX, La. - The Nicholls State University women's and men's tennis teams took on Jacksonville State for a doubleheader at the Colonel Tennis Complex and the visitors left with a pair of victories, 5-2 and 6-1, on Wednesday afternoon. 
Playing in cold and windy conditions, the women's squad (1-2) was led by a 
Carla Bouygues and 
Morgan Forshag, who won their matches at No. 5 and 6 singles. Bouygues improved to 2-0 on the season in singles while Forshag upped her record to 2-1. For the men, 
Omar Hussein claimed a three-set victory at No. 4 and is also 2-1 for the season. 
In the women's match, the Colonels split doubles the first two doubles matches as 
Lingfeng Gu and 
Mikaela Konstantinova had a shutout win on court 2 against Sara Jamal and Balsen Kaya. But in the decisive line 3, Bouygeus and Forshag fell short, 7-5. 
Jacksonville State (3-1) clinched the team victory by taking courts 1, 2, 3 and 4. Bouygeus had a shutout in her opening set before taking the second, 6-4. Forshag outlasted Alba Conejero, 7-6 (7-4) before earning a 6-2 win to close it out.
For the men, JSU (5-0) took courts 2 and 3 in doubles for the point, however, 
Piyush Surendra Salekar and 
Ricardo de Sales Chaves Machado held a 5-4 advantage on the top line when play was suspended.
Like in the women's match, the Gamecocks took the first four completed singles matches before Hussein prevented the shutout with a 2-6, 6-2, 11-9 victory against Dmitri Vasilev. 
Antoine Martin-Thiriat nearly picked up his second win of the season but fell in the tiebreaker, 6-2, 2-6, 11-9.

The women are back on home Saturday (Feb. 8) to host Samford at 12 p.m. while the men will host Millsaps next Friday, Feb. 14. They were originally scheduled to head to Baton Rouge on Sunday (Feb. 9) for a 5 p.m. match against LSU, but the match was postponed due to a LSU team illness.
