Final Stats 2 JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - The Nicholls State University softball team received a solid pitching performance by
Emily Danehower against Jacksonville, but the offense was held in check as Nicholls was defeated, 2-1, Saturday in the River City Leadoff Tournament.
The Colonels also played San Diego State earlier in the day and lost 7-3. No stats were available for the game.
Danehower tossed all six innings against JU, allowing four hits and one earned run. Her counterpart, Alyssa Bilodeau, also surrendered just four hits and struck out nine. The difference in the game ended up being an unearned run in the sixth after a leadoff error by the Colonels.
Corynn Major had no problem against Bilodeau, going 3-for-3 at the leadoff spot.
Emma Holland had the only other hit - an RBI single in the fifth.
Jacksonville grabbed the early lead in the second on a run-scoring groundout. In the fifth, Holland's single tied it up and Nicholls had the chance to take the lead against Bilodeau with runners on second and third, but
Caitlin Garcia was retired on a groundout to the pitcher.
Trailing 2-1 in the seventh, the Colonels went down in order which included two strikeouts.
Serena Quinata had two of the Dolphins' four hits.

Nicholls will close out the weekend Sunday against Villanova (9 a.m.).
