FRISCO, Texas -- Monday afternoon, the Southland Conference announced Nicholls State University redshirt junior Ty Gordon as the league's Men's Basketball Player of the Week, good for the Troy transfer's second this season as well as the program's third weekly honor under head coach Austin Claunch.
For the week, Gordon composed a highly-competitive three-game stretch as the Colonels pushed their win streak up to seven games (six in conference play), dropping a team season-high 27 points -- including a career-high six three-point field goals -- in Wednesday night's victory at HBU before racking up a solid 18 points in a complete dismantling of rival New Orleans on Saturday afternoon. In Sunday's blowout of non-conference make-up game Carver, the redshirt junior primarily rested after making his 12th start of the year, finishing with just three points across 19 minutes of play.
Overall, the Mississippi native averaged 16.0 points per game (22.5 ppg in SLC play) behind an electric shooting showcase, including a lethal 53 percent (17-of-32) from the floor along with 50 percent (11-of-22) from long range.
