Nicholls notches solid performances at Louisiana Invitational

BATON ROUGE, La. -- Just two weeks removed from competing in the same facility as part of the season-opening LSU Purple Tiger, the Nicholls State University track & field program wrapped up the team's return to Baton Rouge with a couple of impressive showings at the Louisiana Invitational, securing 11 Top 10 finishes across both the men's and women's squads throughout Friday's events at the Carl Maddox Fieldhouse.

Post-meet, head coach Stefanie Slekis highlighted two specifically impressive performances from junior Chelsea Harrington and sophomore Jerrian Brown, as the former secured third overall in the long jump while the latter set his third personal record of the season, this time in the 800m.

"We saw consistent improvement across both our teams with the biggest highlights being Jerrian's new personal best in the 800m and Chelsea's strong outing in the long jump," Slekis said. "Coach Lord looks forward to continuing to improve upon Chelsea's performance, but she put together a really solid jump today. Jerrian ran a very strong second half of his 800m, but we know he is capable of getting out more aggressively and there is still some room to keep working."

KEY STORYLINES & FINISHES
-- After a decent opening two weeks ago in the same facility, Harrington bolstered her meet-to-meet performance in the long jump by a significant .12m margin (5.38m to 5.50m), earning herself third place and a trip to the podium along the way.
-- Just two weeks following a pair of career-bests in the 400m and 600m, Brown managed to log his third personal record of the year, running a 2:03.84 mark in the 800m as he captured eighth place in the event.
-- In the women's 200m, Keiondra Narcisse locked up a sixth-place run while fellow Colonel Kiara Bethley slid in for seventh.
-- Junior Hailey Alcorn, however, secured herself second in the women's 400m race while Anginique Andrews, Briana Land and Nia Maye registered fourth, fifth and seventh, respectively.

With the program's second LSU-hosted meet within a two week span all wrapped up, the Colonels shift focus out-of-state as preparations begin for the Southland Conference Indoor Championships, traveling the Red & Gray women's squad to Birmingham, Ala. in early February for the Samford Indoor.
