THIBODAUX, La. -- Despite putting together a competitive effort across the team's first full home weekend of Southland play, the Nicholls State University women's soccer programĀ (0-12-0, 0-8-0 SLC) suffered a pair of losses against two of the league's top-ranked squads, initially surrendering a 2-0 contest to Northwestern State (6-4-3, 6-1-1 SLC) on Friday evening before carrying a 0-0 draw late into the second half versus McNeese (9-3-2, 6-1-1 SLC) on Sunday afternoon only to eventually falter by a 2-0 margin.
KEY STORYLINES & STATISTICS
GAME ONE vs. Northwestern State (L 0-2) -- Friday, Oct. 8
-- In spite of the Lady Demons bolting out to a quick start against the Red & Gray behind a pair of goals early on in the opening half, Nicholls bounced back across the final 70-plus minutes of action, stifling Northwestern State en route to eventual 2-0 defeat.
-- As a defense, the Colonels proved resilient overall, giving up a season-low in both shots (11) and shots-on-goal (5) with sophomore
Reagan Carter picking up three total saves on the day.
GAME TWO vs. McNeese (L 0-2) -- Sunday, Oct. 10
-- In opposite fashion of the weekend's opener, McNeese struggled to pressure the Colonels throughout a hard-fought first half, only successfully earning results late in the second period on back-to-back scores.
-- Between the pipes, Carter impressed with a nine-save performance across a full 90 minutes on the pitch, allowing just the two solo goals for the match.
UP NEXT
With the first pair of rematches out of the way, the Red & Gray close out the four-match home stretch against Southland adversary Houston Baptist on Thursday, Oct. 14 before hitting the road for for the year's final non-conference clash at Louisiana-Monroe on Sunday, Oct. 17.
