THIBODAUX, La. – Senior
Bryanna Washington was one of three Colonels to score in double figures, and notched a double-double with 10 rebounds, as the Nicholls State University women's basketball team defeated Tougaloo College, 63-44, Thursday evening at Stopher Gymnasium.
Nicholls (1-1) never trailed against the Bulldogs, thanks in part to a defensive effort that held them to 28 percent shooting from the field. And while Tougaloo only had five more turnovers (18-13), the Colonels had a huge advantage in the resulting points, 24-3.
Chelsea Cain came off the bench for 11 points and collected eight rebounds, and
Chyna Allen finished with 10 points. In her Stopher debut, freshman
Deonna Brister filled up the stat sheet with 10 rebounds, four points, three steals and a block.
Although Nicholls did not have to play from behind, it wasn't until before halftime that the Colonels pushed their lead to double figures. It then grew to as much as 26 in the fourth.
Berniya Hardin scored a game-high 15 points for the Bulldogs.
