THIBODAUX, La. - Chyna Allen scored 18 points to lead four players in double figures as the Nicholls State University women's basketball team defeated Spring Hill College, 73-53, Friday afternoon at Stopher Gymnasium.
Nicholls (2-2) held Spring Hill to just three points in the first quarter and went into the break leading 29-18. While the third and fourth quarters were closer, the Colonels outscored the Badgers in each period en route to the 20-point victory.
Allen was 7 of 15 from the field and made her lone 3-point attempt, and also added a team-high four assists to go along with two steals.
Bryanna Washington had her second double-double in as many home games, totaling 12 points and 10 rebounds.
Traya Bruce added 11 points, with nine coming via three 3-pointers, and
Lauryn Bowie rounded out the leading scorers with 10 points. Nicholls dressed just eight players due to injuries.
For the game, Nicholls shot 44 percent from the field and connected on 18 of 23 from the free throw line. The Colonel defense limited Spring Hill to 33 percent overall and 3 of 15 from 3-point range. The Badgers also struggled at the charity stripe, making 10 of 19.
Spring Hill was led by Tyashia Bostick with 17 points.
