PHOENIX, Ariz. - The Nicholls State University women's basketball team was unable to keep up with Grand Canyon University in a 103-55 loss Friday afternoon at GCU Arena.
Nicholls (2-4) trailed by 12 at the half and kept the deficit in the teens for most of the third before GCU (3-1) exploded for a 47-point fourth quarter. The Lopes hit 10 of their 19 3-pointers in the final 10 minutes en route to the lopsided victory.
Chyna Allen had a team-high 16 points for the Colonels while
Kate Manley scored 12 of her career-high 14 points in the second half.
Bryanna Washington also had a solid effort with 9 points and five rebounds.
Nicholls shot 42 percent from the field but was plagued by turnovers, giving the ball up 34 times. It resulted in a 40-8 advantage for GCU in points off turnovers. In addition to the huge discrepancy in the turnover battle, GCU's 19 3-pointers came at a 50 percent clip. Allen had the lone 3-ball for the Red and Gray, which finished 1 of 8 from long range.
Allen had four of the Colonels' first six points for a 6-0 advantage before GCU countered with three 3-pointers. The Lopes led 21-13 after one quarter and pushed the lead to double figures in the second. The closest Nicholls would get the rest of the way was at 31-23 on a
Jazmyn Womack jumper with four minutes until halftime.
GCU was led in scoring by Ny'Dajah Jackson with 21 points and Kiyley Flowers had 17. The duo combined for nine 3-pointers and 35 points in the fourth quarter.

Nicholls will wrap up the trip in Arizona with a 1 p.m. matchup against Montana. The Grizzlies defeated Southland member HBU on Friday, 59-56, in overtime.
