CHICAGO - Despite its second highest scoring output of the season, the Nicholls State University women's basketball team was unable to keep pace with a strong DePaul squad as the Colonels fell on the road, 100-72, Tuesday afternoon at Wintrust Arena.
Nicholls (2-8) also had its second best showing from the field at 45 percent but turnovers proved to be costly for the Red and Gray. The Colonels gave up the ball 35 times which resulted in 37 points for the Blue Demons (9-2), who improved to 6-0 at home while extending their winning streak to five games.
Chelsea Cain once again led the Colonels on offense, scoring 18 points with 10 coming from the free throw line.
Bryanna Washington scored in double figures for the fourth straight outing, netting a season 16 on 8 for 9 from the field. Making her first career start,
Kyrstin Green scored a career-high 11 points while
Chyna Allen chipped in with 14.Â
Washington had a strong start for the Colonels as she scored three times inside for an early 10-9 lead. DePaul took the lead for good later in the quarter and after Washington scored again to the trim into the lead at 21-14, the Blue Demons ended the period with two free throws.
That momentum carried over into the second as DePaul scored the first 16 points for a commanding 39-14 advantage. Washington ended the four-minute scoring drought with a field goal inside and Nicholls added 14 more before the break, but still trailed 47-30.
In the second half, DePaul saw its lead stretch to as much as 39 before going on to score 100 points for the fourth time this season.
The Blue Demons were led in scoring by Sonya Morris with a game-high 21 points.Â
