FRISCO, Texas -- The Nicholls State University baseball program secured ninth in the the Southland Conference's 2021 Preseason Poll, per a release Thursday morning from the league office in Frisco, Texas. The poll is voted upon by the league's head coaches and sports information departments.
The Colonels received 107 points in total, ranking just 26 points off seventh UIW and Texas A&M-Corpus Chrsiti. Sam Houston paced the conference with 16 first-place votes and 278 total points while McNeese (seven first-place votes, 256 points), Southeastern Louisiana (one first-place vote, 234 points), Central Arkansas (one first-place vote, 221 points) and Northwestern State (one first-place vote, 213 points) rounded out the top five.
Nicholls officially kicks off the 2021 campaign on Feb. 19-21 with a three-game series against Eastern Illinois -- the first of 10 pre-league matchups -- before shifting gears for Southland Conference play on Friday, Mar. 12, hosting a four-game set against Stephen F. Austin. The Colonels close out the regular season schedule May 20-22 at home versus Sam Houston, matching wits with the Bearkats before potentially advancing to the Southland Conference Tournament later that month.
