BIRMINGHAM, Ala. -- Following a two-week hiatus away from official competition, the Nicholls State University track & field program jumps back into the fray as the women's squad heads northeast to the Samford Indoor Invitational, competing for one day at the regional meet in final preparation for the upcoming Southland Conference Championships based in the same facility, first event slated for the morning of Friday, Feb. 12 at the Birmingham CrossPlex.

For Red & Gray head track & field coach Stefanie Slekis, the chance to not only acclimate to the environment, but also put in additional reps at the future site of the indoor conference championships has been invaluable to her student-athletes in the past, a trend she expects to carry over into this year's group.

"The opportunity to compete at the Birmingham CrossPlex and really get comfortable with that environment just two weeks before the Southland meet means a lot to our athletes," Slekis said. "We feel that many of our individual competitors have a great shot at putting in some solid prep this weekend, such as Omo [Oboh] in the 60m Hurdles and Chelsea [Harrington] over in the long jump, and those extra few reps can make a legitimate difference come time for the league championships."

After wrapping up the the non-league schedule at Samford, the Colonels advance to the Southland Conference Indoor Track & Field Championships just over two weeks from now, traveling back to the Birmingham CrossPlex for a two-day meet running Sunday, Feb. 28 through Monday, March 1 in Birmingham, Ala.
