NEW ORLEANS – The Nicholls State University tennis teams picked up 5-2 victories against Loyola University New Orleans Tuesday at the City Park Tennis Center.
The men improved to 2-1 on the season while the women notched their first win to sit at 1-3.
For the men's team, only five courts were played in singles as the Colonels were short-handed, surrendering a point at No. 6.
Piyush Surendra Salekar,
Prasanna Pravin Bagade, and
Pavle Drobnjakovic each claimed straight-set victories. After dropping the first set,
Axel Cronje battled back to defeat Tiger Cheung at No. 4, 6-7, 6-2, 10-7.
In doubles, Drobjakovic and Cronje took the No. 2 court, 6-4, and Salekar/Machado secured the point with a 7-6 (3) victory.
The women also had four wins in singles against Loyola – all coming in straight sets.
Simona Maksimovic won on the top court and
Nuria Martin Lopez won by the same score, 6-4, 6-1, at No. 4.
Carla Bouygues also had an identical score at No. 4 while
Morgan Forshag took both of her sets, 6-1.
Nicholls notched the doubles point with win at No. 2 and 3. The duo of Forshag/Martin Lopez got things started with a 6-2 win and after Loyola evened it up, Maksimovic/Bouygues finished the Wolf Pack off with a 6-3 score.
