SAN ANTONIO - The Nicholls State University women's tennis team got its first conference win of the season, when the Colonels traveled to San Antonio to play against UIW on Friday afternoon.
A short-handed UIW allowed the Colonels to get one singles point by default to start, followed by the first earned point by Carla Bouygues, 6-1, 6-2.
Laura Lopez was the next to score for the Colonels when she defeated UIW's Sophia Kermet 6-2, 6-3. Morgan Forshag fell short in court 5, 7-5, 7-5, but Simona Maksimovic and Nuria Martin Lopez were able to defeat their opponents following.
Maksimovic and Martin Lopez both fell short in their second games, after winning the first, but came back to win their final games 6-2, 5-7, 10-8, and 6-4, 4-6, 10-5, respectively.
Forshag and Lopez were able to secure a win on court 2 in doubles play, followed by a win from Bouygues and Maksimovic for Nicholls to gain the doubles point.
The Colonels are now 4-7, 1-4 SLC and they travel to Abilene, Texas to face Abilene Christian Sun. March 15 at 11 a.m.
