Colonel Tennis comes up short in league matches at ACU

ABILENE, Texas - The Nicholls State University men's and women's tennis teams fell short in their matches against Abilene Christian 5-2 and 6-1, respectively, Sunday morning at Eager Tennis Center in Abilene, Texas. 

The men's team fell in all three doubles games, but Omar Morsy and Antoine Martin-Thiriat were both able to score for the Colonels in singles play. 

Martin-Thiriat was the first to score for the Colonels, when he defeated Ryan Flanagan 6-1, 6-1. Morsy was the last to earn a point for the Colonels with his 6-2, 6-2 victory over Joaquin Delgado. 

On the women's side, Nuria Martin Lopez was the lone scorer winning her game against Claire Fisher 7-5, 7-6.

In double's competition for the women's team, Abilene Christian won court 2; however, the Colonels tied up the competition with a win from Martin Lopez and Nikita Pinto in court 3, 6-1. The Colonels fell short in court 1 allowing for Abilene Christian to take the doubles point.

The men's record dropped to 4-3, 0-1 SLC, and the women's record dropped to 4-8, 1-5 SLC. 

Both teams will be competing at home this week at the Colonel Tennis Complex. The women's team will be facing off against Omaha, Tuesday, March 16, at 2 p.m. and the men's team will be playing against Southern Miss, Wednesday, March 17 at 2 p.m.
