THIBODAUX, La. - The Nicholls State University men's and women's tennis teams fell short in their doubleheader match against Xavier, Sunday afternoon at the Colonel Tennis Complex. Both teams lost 4-0.
In doubles competition, on the women's side, the Colonels fell short 6-1 in court 1, but
Laura Lopez and
Nikita Pinto tied up the competition with a win on court 3, 6-4. However,
Morgan Forshag and
Nuria Martin Lopez fell by two points in the final game, 6-4, with the doubles point going to Xavier.Â
On the men's side, the Colonels lost court 2, but Griffin Babineaux and Antonio Sasso came up with a 6-3 victory over Xavier, tying up the competition. Pavle Drobnajokovic and Omar Morsy came close to winning the final game for the Colonels but lost 6-4, giving the doubles point to Xavier.Â
In singles competition, on the men's side, Piyush Surendra Salekar came close to winning his first set against Shaikh Abdullah, but fell short in the game 7-5, 6-3. After losing the first set 6-2, Drobnajakovic came close to winning the second but lost 6-2, 6-4. Sasso fell 6-2, 6-2 in his game.Â
On the women's side, Carla Bouygues came close to winning the first set, but lost in both 6-4, 6-1. Lopez and Pinto also fell short in their matches, 6-1, 6-0 and 6-1, 6-3, respectively.Â
The women's record dropped to 4-10 and they will be facing off against Southern Miss, Wed., Mar. 24 at 2 p.m. in the Colonel Tennis Complex.Â
The men's record fell to 4-6 and they will be playing against Southern Miss, Thurs., Mar. 25 at 2 p.m. in the Colonel Tennis Complex.
