Colonel Women's Tennis falls in close match against NSU, 4-3

THIBODAUX, La. - The Nicholls State University women's tennis team fell short in their match against Northwestern State, 4-3, Sunday afternoon at the Colonel Tennis Complex.

"What we're trying to impress upon the ladies is every single match in the conference is tough. We're really pushing to the edge but we've just got to get better and more balanced across the lines," said Greg Harkins, Nicholls Tennis head coach.

Singles competition was where the Colonels were able to gain their points, with Simona Maksimovic, Carla Bouygues and Morgan Forshag getting a point each for Nicholls.

Maksimovic lost her first game against Mariella Minetti, 3-6, but came back to win her second two, 6-3, 10-8.

Bouygues and Forshag each won both of their games 6-1, 6-4, and 6-2, 6-3, respectively.

The Colonels were unable to secure the doubles point, falling short in all of their doubles games.

"We had a little bit of letdown in the doubles but we're gonna keep tweaking it. We are inspired, not retired, so we're gonna keep pushing. We feel that a breakthrough is coming, and we're looking forward to the backside of conference play and we're going to dig in."

The Colonels' record dropped to 2-7, 0-4 SLC and their next match is Monday, March 8 at Alcorn. First serve is scheduled for 2 p.m.
