Colonel Tennis sweeps road match against Alcorn

LORMAN, Miss. - In a doubleheader at Alcorn, Monday afternoon in Lorman, Miss., Nicholls State University's women's and men's tennis teams both won their matches. The women's team shutout Alcorn 7-0, and the men's team came up victorious 5-2.

For the women's team, a short-handed Alcorn gave the Colonels a point on court 6 in singles competition. Simona Maksimovic won her match 6-1, 6-2, followed by another Colonel point earned by Carla Bouygues. Nuria Martin Lopez claimed the next for Nicholls with a 6-2, 6-2 win over Alcorn's Kimberley Kaome. 

Laura Lopez and Morgan Forshag were the final two to score for the Colonels, winning their matches 6-4, 6-2, and 6-3, 6-2, respectively. \

Forshag and Lopez won their doubles match 6-4, followed by a win by Maksimovic and Bouygues 7-5 securing the doubles point for the Colonels. 

On the men's side, the Colonels were able to earn four points in singles competition.

In his first career match, Griffin Babineaux defeated Kareem Bowe 6-3, 6-0. 

Ricardo de Sales Chaves Machado and Antoine Martin-Thiriat also earned points for the Colonels when they were victorious in their matches 6-4, 6-0, and 6-0, 6-3, respectively.

In doubles competition, Piyush Surendra Salekar and Drobnjackovic won the first game for the Colonels 6-3, followed by a loss by Omar Morsey and Ricardo Machado tying up the competition for the doubles point.

Martin-Thiriat and Antonio Sasso won the final game of doubles play 6-3, and Nicholls earned the doubles point. 

The women's tennis team is now 3-7 and the men's team is 3-2. 

The women's next match is against UIW, Friday, March 12 in San Antonio. The men's team is also traveling to San Antonio, but they will be facing off against St. Mary's on Friday, March 12 at 2 p.m.
