CONWAY, Ark. – The Nicholls State University softball team had two completely different games in its Saturday doubleheader at Central Arkansas, but the result remained the same as the Colonels were defeated 14-2 in five innings before dropping the second contest 2-0.
The losses slide Nicholls to 8-19 overall and 1-13 in league play. UCA improved its mark to 24-12 and 12-2 as they head into Sunday looking for a sweep. First pitch is scheduled for noon.
Game 1 saw UCA use a six-run second inning to take command. The Bears had only one more hit than the Colonels, 7-6, but took advantage of four Nicholls errors and eight walks.
Ashlyn Reavis was 2-for-2 at the plate in the loss. The lone two Colonel runs scored in the fifth on wild pitches.
In Game 2, a sacrifice fly and a run scored on an error would be all
Jordan Moon allowed but the Colonel offense was limited to three hits and no runs against Kayla Beaver.
Reavis again had two hits with
Syndee Shelton recording the other.
UCA's Kayla Shepard had the only RBI on the sac fly in the first. Moon was able to scatter six hits in 6.0 innings and struck out four.
Beaver fanned six batters in the complete game shutout.
