THIBODAUX, La. - The Nicholls State University men's tennis team was handed a 4-0 setback against Southern Miss on Tuesday at the Colonel Tennis Complex.
Southern Miss (7-1) took courts 3 and 2 in doubles to grab the early 1-0 advantage. In singles, the Golden Eagles notches three straight-set victories to secure the victory.
Omar Morsy claimed a victory in his first set on Court 2 but his match went unfinished.
Pavle Drobnjakovic had a close outing in defeat on the top line, falling to USM's Alexander Gima, 6-4, 7-5.
Piyush Surendra Salekar also battled in his opening set, dropping a tiebreaker 7-6 (7-3).
Drobnajkovic and Morsy were trailing 5-4 in doubles when Southern Miss clinched the doubles point.
Axel Cronje and
Antonio Sasso fell 6-4 at No. 2 while
Griffin Babineaux and Prasanna Pravin Bagade were defeated 6-2.

Nicholls will play its second and third conference matches of the season, hosting Lamar and Texas A&M-Corpus Christi this weekend at the Colonel Tennis Complex. Friday's match against Lamar is scheduled for 11 a.m.
