THIBODAUX, La. - The Nicholls State University men's and women's tennis teams both came away with losses, 5-2 and 6-1, respectively, in a doubleheader matchup against Lamar University at the Colonel Tennis Complex, Friday afternoon.
In singles competition, for the men,
Omar Morsy was the first to score for the Colonels with his 6-4, 6-1 victory over Filippo Salsini.
Ricardo de Sales Chaves Machado won his game 6-2, 6-4.
Piyush Surendra Salekar had a close match up with his opponent Carlos Paton Canal, falling short in the first set 6-1, but coming back in the second with a 6-3 victory. The final set ended with Surendra Salekar falling short 7-6 (7-0).
Simona Maksimovic was the lone scorer on the women's team with a 6-4 victory in set 1, but falling short 7-5 in set 2. She came up victorious in the final set to win 10-5.
In doubles play,
Laura Lopez and
Nikita Pinto were trailing 5-4 before Lamar secured the doubles point.
Morgan Forshag and
Nuria Martin Lopez fell short 6-3, followed by Maksimovic and
Carla Bouygues also losing, 6-3.
On the men's side,
Axel Cronje and
Antonio Sasso were behind 4-2 when Lamar gained the doubles point. Morsy and
Pavle Drobnjakovic were defeated 6-0, and
Griffin Babineaux and Machado lost 6-1.
The men's and women's records dropped to 4-9, 0-2 SLC and 4-15, 1-9 SLC, respectively.
They both face off against Texas A&M- Corpus Christi, Sunday April 11, at 11 a.m. in the Colonel Tennis Complex.
