THIBODAUX, La. – The Nicholls State University softball team will look to turn its misfortunes around on the road in a three-game series against Central Arkansas. The series was pushed back a day with Saturday's doubleheader scheduled for noon and Sunday's finale will also be at 12 p.m.

The Colonels (8-17, 1-11 SLC) have only played five true road games this season and just one series away from Swanner Field. Nicholls fell in all three matchups at Stephen F. Austin and also came up short at UAB earlier this season and on Tuesday, dropped a 10-2 contest at South Alabama.

In the 12 league games, Nicholls is being held to a .221 batting average while the pitching is surrendering a .323 clip. Despite the overall team struggles at the plate,
Kennedy Hebert and
Kelsey Miller have excelled for the Colonel offense with .371 and .341 averages, respectively. Hebert has hit safely in eight of the 12 contests and has a pair of three-hit outings. Miller has had a hit in 10 Southland games, including her last seven.

Central Arkansas (22-12, 10-2 SLC) has been one of the best teams in the SLC so far, mainly due to its outstanding pitching. The Bears have a collective 1.09 ERA in conference and opponents are batting just .181. Kayla Beaver is 6-1 in SLC games with a 0.57 ERA to go along with 27 strikeouts. Jordan Johnson has a perfect 4-0 record with a team-high 33 strikeouts and is also posting a sub-1.00 ERA at 0.98.

The teams last played in 2019 with the Colonels winning the series in Conway, two games to one. Since the 2016 season, Nicholls has a 11-3 advantage which includes a win in the '16 Southland Tournament.
