Hebert repeats as Southland All-Academic selection

FRISCO, Texas - Nicholls State University softball junior Kennedy Hebert has been named to the Southland Conference Softball All-Academic Teams for the second straight season, as the league office announced Tuesday its all-academic honorees.

Hebert was voted to the second team all-academic squad. She was a first-team selection last season in her first year eligible for the award.

A graduate of Morgan City High School, Hebert has a 4.0 grade-point average as an accounting major. She is one of 10 student-athletes on the 26-member squad to post a perfect GPA.

In her third campaign with the Colonels, Hebert finished with a .302 batting average and racked up 19 RBIs. She was second on the team with nine multi-hit games and totaled 10 extra-base hits with eight doubles and two triples. Hebert strung together an eight-game hitting streak early in the season and then posted three three-hit games in conference play.

The All-Academic teams are voted on by head coaches, sports information directors and academic/compliance staff members from each Southland Conference institution. Student-athletes must possess a 3.0 cumulative GPA, have completed one full academic year at the nominating institution to qualify for All-Academic selection, and have competed in at least 50 percent of their team's contests on the season, excluding pitchers.

The Southland Conference awards committee, which consists of one administrator from each of the 13 member schools, votes for the Student-Athlete of the Year. The Southland Student-Athlete of the Year award is presented to one student-athlete who achieves excellence in both academics and athletics. All nominees must have earned at least a 3.2 GPA on a 4.0 scale and demonstrated athletics achievement for at least two years at the nominating institution.
