FRISCO, Texas - Nicholls State University softball junior
Kennedy Hebert has been named to the Southland Conference Softball All-Academic Teams for the second straight season, as the league office announced Tuesday its all-academic honorees.
Â
Hebert was voted to the second team all-academic squad. She was a first-team selection last season in her first year eligible for the award.
Â
A graduate of Morgan City High School, Hebert has a 4.0 grade-point average as an accounting major. She is one of 10 student-athletes on the 26-member squad to post a perfect GPA.
Â
In her third campaign with the Colonels, Hebert finished with a .302 batting average and racked up 19 RBIs. She was second on the team with nine multi-hit games and totaled 10 extra-base hits with eight doubles and two triples. Hebert strung together an eight-game hitting streak early in the season and then posted three three-hit games in conference play.Â
Â
The All-Academic teams are voted on by head coaches, sports information directors and academic/compliance staff members from each Southland Conference institution. Student-athletes must possess a 3.0 cumulative GPA, have completed one full academic year at the nominating institution to qualify for All-Academic selection, and have competed in at least 50 percent of their team's contests on the season, excluding pitchers.
Â
The Southland Conference awards committee, which consists of one administrator from each of the 13 member schools, votes for the Student-Athlete of the Year. The Southland Student-Athlete of the Year award is presented to one student-athlete who achieves excellence in both academics and athletics. All nominees must have earned at least a 3.2 GPA on a 4.0 scale and demonstrated athletics achievement for at least two years at the nominating institution.
