Nicholls adjusts XC schedule, trades SLC Championships with TAMU-CC

THIBODAUX, La. -- In the wake of the devastation as a result of Hurricane Ida, the Nicholls State University cross country program continues to adjust the team's 2021 schedule accordingly, shifting the second meet of the campaign from the LSU Invitational, originally slated for Friday, Sept. 17, to the Louisiana Tech Mook 4 Invitational on Saturday, Sept. 18 while also changing the course location for the Red & Gray's upcoming home meet -- the Nicholls XC Invitational on Saturday, Oct. 2 -- to the Manning Fields south of Guidry Stadium due to damages at the Nicholls Farm.

Additionally, in order to ensure Nicholls Farm has appropriate time to prepare following the storm's Aug. 29 landfall, the Southland Conference officially announced Wednesday morning the Colonels and Texas A&M-Corpus Christi are to switch hosting duties for the league's cross country championships, pushing the Red & Gray's SLC hosting debut back just one year to the 2022 season.

"We are extremely grateful to Coach Brent Erickson and Texas A&M-Corpus Christi Athletic Director Jon Palumbo and other administrative staff members for making it possible for us to trade years for hosting the Southland Conference Championships," Slekis said. "Our goal remains the same: to put on a premier championship at the Nicholls Farm, and the additional time to prepare after Hurricane Ida for the 2022 Championship will make a big difference. We are excited to still welcome University and High School teams to our main campus with a location change for our home meet -- the 3rd Annual Nicholls XC Invitational -- on Saturday October 2nd. We will have updated course maps and race start times out next week."
