HOUSTON, Texas -- The Nicholls State University women's soccer program (0-7-0, 0-3-0 SLC) suffered a pair of tough losses as the team wrapped up the a fourth consecutive weekend of road action, initially faltering by a 2-1 margin in a back-and-forth non-conference clash at Alcorn State (2-7-0, 0-0-0 SWAC) on Friday evening in Vicksburg, Miss. before falling by a final 7-0 mark to Southland adversary Houston Baptist (1-6-2, 1-1-1 SLC) on Sunday afternoon over in Houston, Texas.
KEY STORYLINES & STATISTICS
GAME ONE at Alcorn State (L 1-2) -- Friday, Sept. 17
-- For the first time this season, the Colonels managed to earn a quick advantage on the scoreboard, jumping out on top of Alcorn State via a
Kaitlyn Poirrier goal (
Kristy Castelan assist) in just the second minute of the contest. The Lady Braves, however, answered not long after, notching a score of their own in the 15th minute before taking a decisive lead just prior to the end of regulation en route to the eventual victory.
-- As a group, the Red & Gray led a game in both total shots (17-to-13) and shots-on-goal (10-to-7) for this first time this year, generating five corner kicks as well. Individually, sophomore

Reagan Carter handled goalkeeper duties for the entire 90 minutes, earning five saves while surrendering the two goals.
GAME TWO at Houston Baptist (L 0-7) -- Sunday, Sept. 19
-- The Huskies bolted out of the gate, collecting four goals in the first half before cleaning up the win with another three scores in the final period.

Kelsie Gulczynski set the offensive tone for the Colonels, finishing with a squad-high two shots-on-goal for the match; meanwhile, Carter worked the opening half in net, giving up four goals while swiping two saves, before fellow sohomore
Valeria Vargas Leon took over in the second, earning five saves while allowing three scores.
UP NEXT
With another away weekend officially concluded, the Red & Gray shift focus to the final pairing of their forced five-week roadtrip to kick off the 2021 campaign, trekking across state lines for Southland matches against UIW (Sept. 24) and Texas A&M-Corpus Christi (Sept. 26).
