THIBODAUX, La. -- On Saturday, the Nicholls State University volleyball team (4-13, 1-4 SLC) was defeated 3-0 after struggling to handle multiple scoring runs from Southeastern (13-4, 3-2 SLC) in Hammond.
In the first set, the Lady Lions jumped out to an 8-4 advantage, after that the Colonels used a scoring run to tie the score at 14 before SLU scored three straight points to build a cushion and eventually take the set 25-22. The second set was all Lady Lions with them scoring nine out of the last 10 points to win the set 25-16. In the final set, the teams traded four-point scoring runs with the Lady Lions pulling away 25-22 to win the match.
The Red & Gray offense was set up by senior
Lilly Bivens who registered 21 assists, while freshman
Taylor Heeb added nine helpers. Multiple Colonels recorded at least five kills, with sophomore
Trinity Vinzant leading the way with eight kills on a .438 hitting percentage. Freshman middle blocker
Paris Dixon and senior outside hitter
Katie Jones finished the match with seven kills apiece on .385 and .217 hitting percentages, respectively. Senior middle blocker
S'mara Riley and freshman outside hitter
Mackenzie Pryor each tallied five kills.
Defensively, Pryor led the unit with 10 digs, while Vinzant and sophomore libero
Kadie Becnel added eight apiece. Bivens and Jones each added five digs. The Colonels accumulated 12 block assists, with Pryor and Riley each recording three, while Dixon, Vinzant, and junior middle blocker
Jhayla Bolden combined for six to round out the total.

Nicholls will welcome Northwestern State and new SLC member Texas A&M-Commerce to Thibodaux for matches on Thursday, Oct. 6, and Saturday, Oct. 8.
