THIBODAUX, La. - The Nicholls State University women's soccer team allowed a pair of early goals to UIW before dropping a 3-1 match Friday night at the Thibodaux Regional Sports Complex.
UIW (3-7-3, 2-4-3 SLC) added a third goal in the second half but the Colonels were able to record their first home goal in league play as
Hanah Gonzalez scored in the 88th minute to erase the shutout. Nicholls (2-13-1, 0-9 SLC) had been outscored 10-0 in the previous three conference games in Thibodaux.
The Colonels fired off eight shots led by
Rami Mitchell with three. Although Mitchell came up short of adding her second goal of the season, she picked up the assist on the Gonzalez goal. Mitchell and Gonzalez passed the ball back and forth as they headed towards the keeper and Gonzalez fired a shot into the net for her first career goal.
Megan Cook had two saves but allowed all three UIW goals.
Reagan Carter made the start at goalkeeper but had to leave the game in the first five minutes with an injury. Carter earned one save before exiting the match.
UIW had two different players score -- Meredith Caviglia (5') and Sinead Duffy (16', 70'). The Cardinals doubled up Nicholls with 18 shots and had a 6-0 advantage in corner kicks.
