THIBODAUX, La. - The Nicholls State University women's soccer team picked up its offensive effort in the second half but still could not crack the scoring column as the Colonels were defeated 2-0 by Southeastern in their home finale Friday night at the Thibodaux Regional Sports Complex.
Nicholls was held without a shot in the first half, resulting in a 1-0 lead for Southeastern on a late goal by Emma Ramsey. The Colonels had a few chances to tie the match after firing off four shots in the opening 10 minutes of the second half but came up empty. Kelsey Fuller then gave Southeastern (6-5-3, 4-3-3 SLC) a 2-0 advantage after scoring in the 60th minute.
Playing in her final match in Thibodaux,
Reagan Carter recorded double digits in saves for the second consecutive outing with 11. The Lady Lions totaled 26 shots with 14 on goal and Carter let just two past her.
SLU's Emma Jones set up the first goal in the 43rd minute with a long pass into the box on a free kick. But after the intermission,
Karina Gonzalez got off a pair of shots and
Shelby Nickal added another, but Olivia Griffin logged two of her four saves on the night. Nickal led the Colonels with a pair of shots on goal.
Following the goal by Fuller, the Colonels logged three more shots the rest of the way but went on to suffer their eighth shutout in conference play.
With the loss, Nicholls fell to 2-14-1 on the season and 0-11 in the Southland. The Colonels will wrap up the season next Friday at Lamar.
