BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Nicholls State University women's basketball team (2-1) suffered its first loss of the season, falling 69-40 at UAB on Tuesday night.
The biggest difference in the game was the second quarter where the Blazers outscored the Colonels 19-5 to hold a 41-18 advantage at the half.
The third frame was no different with UAB outscoring Nicholls 18-8 to lead 59-26 going into the fourth. The Colonels scored their most points in the fourth quarter and won the final stanza 14-10.
UAB used its size advantage and generated 34 points in the paint compared to 10 for Nicholls. The Colonels were more effective on the offensive glass racking up 14 offensive rebounds, however, they were outrebounded 53-49.
Junior guard 
Kyla Hamilton was the Colonels' leading scorer, pouring in 12 points, including hitting both of her 3-pointers. She also matched a career-high eight rebounds and had three steals.
Sophomore forward 
Deonna Brister scored eight points, hitting four of six shots from the charity stripe, and snagged a career-high 11 rebounds.
Redshirt sophomore guard 
Amelia Sandie scored five points, grabbed six boards, and hit a 3-pointer for the second straight game, while junior center 
Kate Manley remained active posting four points, four rebounds, and two assists.
The Blazers had three double-figure scorers with Kylee Schneringer leading the way hitting six of 10 field goals, including two 3-pointers to finish the contest with 14 points and six boards. Lyndsey Robson scored 12 points and Margaret Whitley stuffed the stat sheet with 11 points, eight rebounds, and three assists.
