THIBODAUX, La. - The Nicholls State University women's basketball team shot nearly identical to HBU from the field and at the free throw line, but the Huskies had an 8-0 advantage from 3-point range as the Colonels suffered their fourth consecutive loss, falling 61-51 Saturday afternoon at Stopher Gymnasium.
Nicholls (4-17, 2-8 SLC) hung close with the second-place Huskies (12-9, 8-2 SLC) throughout the day but never led after the first quarter. The Colonels tied the game at 25-25 in the third quarter on a
Bryanna Washington basket, but HBU immediately answered with a 3-pointer. That seemed to be the theme of the game as the Huskies responded to every Nicholls comeback attempt.
Chyna Allen led all scorers with 17 points and
Chelsea Cain finished right behind her with 16 to go along with 13 rebounds. But only four other Colonels scored, combining for 18 points.
Enya Maguire netted 14 points to lead a trio of Huskies in double figures. Julija Vujakovic finished with 12 as she and Maguire each canned three 3-pointers.Â
