HAMMOND, La. - The offensive struggles continued for the Nicholls State University women's basketball team as the Colonels shot 22 percent from the field in a 71-45 loss at Southeastern on Saturday afternoon at the University Center.
Nicholls has dropped six games in a row, falling to 4-19 overall and 2-10 in conference. It was also the third straight setback against SLU (14-9, 10-3 SLC) after winning the previous six.
Chyna Allen led the offense with 13 points and was 9 of 10 from the free throw line.
Kyrstin Green added nine points and
Jazmyn Womack led the team with 11 rebounds.
Although the Colonels' 22.4 percent shooting was a season low, they connected on 20 of 25 at the free throw. Ten of the freebies came in the second quarter in the lone period Nicholls outscored SLU by a 17-15 margin.Â
The Lady Lions netted the game's first six points and held Nicholls scoreless through five minutes before Womack sank a 3-pointer. Nicholls trailed 6-5 and SLU closed out the final three minutes of the first on a 17-4 run.
Southeastern led by as much as 19 in the second quarter, but the free throws allowed Nicholls to make a late push heading into halftime.
Amelia Sandie scored in the final minute to cut the deficit to 38-26 at the break.
In the third quarter, Nicholls closed the gap to 40-30 before SLU went on another big run. Morgan Carrier hit three consecutive 3-pointers to spark a 15-2 run as the Lady Lions cruised the rest of the way. Carrier led all scorers with 25 points.

Nicholls will head to Texas for its final road game of the season, taking on Texas A&M-Corpus Christi at 5 p.m. on Wednesday, March 2. Senior Day is scheduled for the following Saturday and the game will air on ESPN+.
