Islanders pull away late to down Colonels, 68-53

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas - Looking to end their road slate on a high note, the Nicholls State University women's basketball team received 19 points from senior Chyna Allen and shot a blistering 67 percent in the first quarter, but a 16-0 run by Texas A&M-Corpus Christi to start the fourth was too much to overcome as the Colonels fell, 68-53, Wednesday evening at the American Bank Center.

With the loss, Nicholls slipped to 4-20 overall and 2-11 in league play. The Colonels will close out the regular season on Saturday at home against New Orleans for Senior Day. The game will tipoff at 1 p.m. and will air on ESPN+.

The Colonels shot over 50 percent in the third quarter as as well, outscoring the Islanders in both periods. But a 10-point second quarter was followed by a six-point fourth, which including a six-minute drought during the Islanders game-clinching run.

Allen played all 40 minutes, adding two steals and two assists. Three Colonels joined her in double figures as Lauryn Bowie finished with 12 points, and Kyrstin Green and Bryanna Washington had 10 each. Green hit two 3-pointers in the first period to help Nicholls to a 20-17 lead after 10 minutes.
