MONROE, La. - The Nicholls State University women's tennis team split its Saturday doubleheader, falling 5-2 at ULM before posting a 7-0 shutout against Grambling.
With the results, the Colonels sit at 2-1 overall as they head into their home opener Monday against Southern. First ball at the Colonel Tennis Complex is scheduled for 2 p.m.
Against ULM, Nicholls claimed wins in singles by
Laura Lopez and
Carla Bouygues. Lopez outlasted Jimena Paula Garbino in three sets, 6-3, 4-6, 6-4, on the No. 4 line while Bouygues earned a straight-set victory over Giovanna Pereira, taking both sets 6-2.
Morgan Forshag also had a three-set match at No. 6 but came up short.
Nicholls had little trouble in the afternoon match against Grambling. In singles play, the Colonels won four sets via shutouts, with two being by Lopez at No. 3. Although she did not have a blank score at No. 4, Bouygues joined Lopez with a 2-0 day in singles with a 6-1, 6-1 win.

Jessie Mount, Forshag and
Constanza Cruz were the other four winners in singles.
The Colonels won the double point against the Lady Tigers, taking all three matches. Lopez/Mount won on the top court, 6-1, while Forshag/Sararova and Maksimovic/Bouygues won their matches 6-2.
